Hello Friends,

Two years ago I ran for my first term as a Kalamazoo City Commissioner and won. It has been a privilege serving on the city commission on which my father, Francis P. Hamilton also served. I want to continue my work on the city commission.

My commission responsibilities include being the commission liaison to the Parks and Recreation Board, the Friends of Parks and Recreation Board, the Kalamazoo Municipal Golf Association Board, and the Historical Preservation Commission. In addition, I am on an Ad hoc committee trying to find a sensible solution to the Iannelli Fountain issue in Bronson Park. I am also on a sub committee about retiree healthcare benefits. To get a feel how other committees operate, I have been attending the Retirement Investment Committee and Planning Commission meetings.

The city staff that I have worked with continuously amazes me. They are knowledgeable and very dedicated. They have been a pleasure to work with. They believe in the city and are committed to moving the city forward.

The city faces many tough issues. There are no simple solutions to most city issues. Progress will take place one step at a time through hard work and cooperation.

During the next two years, I will continue to work on the issues that I feel are important to Kalamazoo. These include:

• Supporting and improving our public safety department
  
  
• Attracting and keeping businesses in Kalamazoo
  
  
• Responding to public issues in a proactive way
